This species was questionably a junior synonym of Lethenteron kessleri (Anikin, 1905) in Renaud (2011: Ref. 89241:72) following Iwata et al. (1985).

  from ETYFish
Etymology not explained, perhaps lethalis (L.), lethal, or lethe (Gr.), forgetting or forgetfulness; enteron (Gr.) intestine, presumably referring to “degenerate and non-functional” intestine of adult L. appendix. (See ETYFish)
